All futurity entries were juvenile and yearling offspring of the 64 subscribed sires. An auction of stud services to these sires raised the money for our prize pool.
255 alpacas, representing 61 of the 64 subscribed studs, were shown in 28 futurity classes.
249 Huacayas competed for $69,475 and 6 Suris competed for $2700.
The classes were judged by Lyn Dickson (Australia) and Kristin Buhrmann (Canada), with all placings decided by consensus.
Payouts were awarded to over 1/2 of the alpacas in each class.
For Huacayas, 1st and 2nd place animals came back to compete for Colour Champion and Reserve Colour Champion.
Then the Supreme Huacaya Champion was chosen from the 6 Colour Champions.
The Herdsire Calcutta was again popular, with $1600 divided up among 5 lucky winners. And the new Best Hand Class was lots of fun. The entries were chosen by the judges as they went through the regular classes. Judge Lyn Dickson was a great sport as she was blindfolded when all 13 entries were brought back in the ring. Prize money of $500 was awarded to the winner.

Congratulations to all who took part and helped to make this event such a success.
Plans are already underway to make next year's futurity - April 18-19, 2009 - another great weekend.
